Principal's Statement
Island City Elementary School is located in the town of Island City and
was built in 1976 during the time when the “Open School Concept” or “Pods”
were common. Island City has three open areas that house the first/second,
third/fourth and fifth/sixth grade classrooms. The school also has a separate
classroom for another first grade. Each of these classrooms is open to the media
center. One kindergarten room and a music room are located adjacent to the
school in a modular facility. The gym also provides space for student breakfast
and lunch. The school has a spacious playground and updated playground
equipment purchased by our supportive PTO organization.
Island City Elementary provides a safe and supportive educational
environment with high academic and behavioral expectations through teaching
that focuses on individual learning needs to prepare students for life in a
changing world. Our talented staff of educators are focused on the intellectual,
social, emotional, moral, and physical developmental needs of students. Island
City School staff are dedicated to reach all students at their individual levels
and learning styles and strive to provide an appropriate academic environment
essential to their successes as citizen’s of this global society.
Island City Elementary has a unique history of strong and committed parents.
The parents are a vital part of the school’s success. The school also enjoys the
supportive relationships with many Island City businesses, service groups and
public safety organizations. Island City Elementary prides itself in promoting a
sense of family in our school setting.
